Homeport is located in the Upper New York Bay, on the eastern side of Staten Island between the St. George Ferry Terminal and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.  Homeport is bounded on the west by Front Street and adjacent to the historic Stapleton neighborhood and the new Stapleton Waterfront, a 35-acre stretch of public open space.  The US Navy built the Homeport pier in the late 1980's to berth destroyer-class vessels; currently the pier is the home location for FDNY's Marine 9 and frequently hosts visiting naval vessels. The pier deck is available at the Homeport Site.
